Microsoft Azure has an offering called Azure File Sync, which allows the synchronization of on-premises file servers with Azure Files supported by Storage Accounts. There are several benefits of using this approach — it could be used for transition between on-premises and cloud, backup, and disaster recovery.

Let’s see how we can configure onto Azure. To do this activity I will be creating One VM which will act as on premise server and then storage account onto Azure and then will create File Sync to connect the Azure Storage File Service with On Premise Machine.

Create Azure File Sync:

Login to Azure Portal → Type Azure File Sync in search bar → and then provide the details as below. → and create.

So I already have VM which is acting as On Premise machine and a storage account on Azure. You need to download the File Sync Agent and install into this machine. Once Installation process is done, one can configure the above created file sync so that this server will registered in Azure File Sync Group.

Virtual Machine:

Storage Account : File Share

Now go to file sync which you created in earlier step and create a sync group. Refer the below screen shot.

Now connect to the machine and configure the Azure File Sync Agent and register the sync service.

Now you will be able to see this server as registered server in Azure File Sync.

Now go to Sync Group which you created in earlier and add the server end point, I am going to share the below directory which is available in server.

Now when you will go to your configured file share service of your storage account, you will able to see the share file which you have configured in server.

Now try editing the file from server it will be synced to azure file share storage account.

We can register this file sync agent in many machine and then can add the end point to sync group to sync the file share.
